FESTIVAL SCHEDULE: April 11

Gord's Brother

In a world where monsters and humans share an uneasy co-existence, Gord's family is dismayed to find that their new baby brother is a monster. This leaves Gord – who has only ever seen his little brother as wonderful - with no choice but to head out on the road to find the City of Monsters, the rumoured haven for all monster-kind. Along the way, they learn that the world is a strange place, and home and family are both what you make them.

Advisory: there are a few mildly scary moments (encounters with monsters)

Lola on the Pea

In German and Kurdish with English subtitles

Nine-year-old Lola lives on the charming old houseboat, the Pea, with her mother. Life is challenging for her. She misses her long-gone dad, and doesn’t much care for her mom’s new boyfriend. She also has to contend with schoolmates who tease her and chase her home from school. One day, she makes a friend—a quiet new boy in town, named Rebin. Rebin’s family is secluded and mysterious, and Lola soon finds out that they are migrants who don’t have the proper documents to live and work in Germany. Together, the two friends learn to fight for what is right, stand up to bullies, and face the future with courage and hope.

Me and My Moulton

A seven-year-old girl longs for a bicycle so that she can be more like the other kids in her Norwegian town, but her embarrassingly unconventional, modernist architect parents see things differently. Academy Award-winning animator Torill Kove weaves memory and fantasy together in this droll and charming look at the pain of childhood alienation. Me and My Moulton is nominated for a 2015 Academy Award in the Animated Short Film category.
